Otoplasty

Otoplasty is a plastic surgery aimed at improving the shape of the auricles and eliminating lop-eared. The main goal of this operation is to get rid of an aesthetic defect, which often causes deep complexes, psychological discomfort and social disadaptation.

Indications

  •  protruding ears
  • Congenital or post-traumatic deformities of the auricles.
  • Asymmetry of the ears.
  • Impaired form of the lobe.
  • Deformation of the earlobe as a result of wearing earrings.
  • Rupture of the ear lobe.

Types

There are the following types of otoplasty:

-Classic otoplasty - cosmetic surgery aimed at eliminating aesthetic defects (lop-eared, earlobe correction)

Correction of protruding ears:

The operation is performed under local anesthesia, within 1-1.5 hours. A small incision is made behind the back wall of the auricle. After this, the doctor gives the cartilage the necessary shape, returning the ear to its natural position.

The minimum dimensions of the cut during the otoplasty, provide absolutely imperceptible microscopic suture. In this case, you will be completely satisfied with the form that you receive after the operation.

Ear lobe plastic repair:

The operation is performed under local anesthesia for 30 to 60 minutes. In most cases, the correction of the size of the earlobe is carried out by removing part of the tissue and further suturing the lobule. Approximately the same way the surgeon works and if it is a rupture of the lobule - in this case, the injured area is removed, but such operation will not affect the size (unless, of course, there is a corresponding desire of the patient).

-Reconstructive otoplasty - surgery is performed in the presence of congenital or post-traumatic defects of the auricle.

Preparation

There is no special preparation for this operation, it is enough to have a small set of tests and consult a surgeon

Contraindications

  • Decompensated diabetes mellitus.
  • Presence of a chronic ear infection.
  • Infectious diseases in the acute stage
  • Violation of blood clotting.

After

The rehabilitation period proceeds easily, the cartilaginous tissue is restored very quickly. For the first few days after the plasty of the ears, a special bandage is mandatory. In the subsequent period (about a month), it will need to be worn at the time of sleep for reliable fixation of the auricle. Small painful sensations in consequence of the plastic surgery of the ears are easily eliminated by anesthetics.

Sutures after otoplasty are removed after 10-12 days. It is possible to return to a habitual way of life already 1-2 days after operation.
